"Here’s a very rich, elaborate wine that defines the modern, ripe style of Zinfandel. You certainly can’t complain about the fruit, which is massive in red and black berry and stone fruit flavors, sprinkled with black pepper, cinnamon and star anise. It’s a little hot and sweet in alcohol, but then again, this is an Alexander Valley Zin. — S.H. (3/1/2012)
This appears savory in the initial aroma and finish, candied in the middle, where oak tones of butterscotch and caramel add sweetness to the fruit and creaminess to the texture. Otherwise, it's spicy with notes of cedar and pepper along with a floral hint of jasmine. The warm, bittersweet tannins will add their savor to roast lamb. 396 cases made.
"(includes 15% petite sirah): Deep, birght ruby. High-pitched aromas of raspberry and cherry, with a hint of white pepper and a slow-building herbal note. Old school and far removed from today's stereotypical outsized zins, offering tangy red fruit flavors and good back-end lift. The lively finish shows a lingering sweetness." Josh Raynolds

"An absolutely brilliant wine, and reasonably priced as well. This wine has a deep ruby color and a big, peppery, spicy, berry-scented nose that screams Zinfandel. Medium bodied, with good, tangy acidity and lots of spice, this is a wine to drink over the next 2-3 years."
"Its dense ruby/purple color is accompanied by abundant aromas of briery wild strawberries, berries, incense, licorice, wite pepper, and spice. Medium to full-bodied as well as supple, it should be enjoyed over the next 3-4 years...."
"The trick of making Zinfandel elegant is to make it feel texturally like Cabernet Sauvignon, while maintaining Zin's flavors, Stuhlmuller's Zin does just that. It's full-bodied, dry and smooth, with soft velvety tannins and a long finish. Yet the briary, peppery, wild berry fruit flavors are all Zin..."
