2012 Estate Cabernet Sauvignon Block 12
Fabulously complex and compelling, this wine offers layers of blueberry, crème de cassis, cedar, purple flowers, cured meat and graphite. Though rich and powerful, a core of freshness and fine tannins promise a long life.
Our renowned vineyard features ten benchland and hillside blocks of Cabernet. To spotlight this diversity, we occasionally craft small-production Cabernets from our finest blocks. This limited-production Cabernet Sauvignon comes from the crown jewel of our estate—2.5 acres of Cabernet vines planted in the 1980s. Planted in silty soils on a gravel bed to the famed Belle Terra field selection, our prized Block 12 always yields some of our most complex and compelling Cabernet.
In 2012, Mother Nature delivered one of the finest growing seasons in our three-decade winegrowing history. The season was long, and temperate, with very little rain and no significant heat events. The vineyard set a good crop, which we judiciously thinned to achieve perfect balance. A combination of plenty of cool foggy mornings and afternoon sunshine, combined with big swings between day and nighttime temperatures produced perfectly ripe fruit with excellent natural acidity.
