Wine Profile
Vineyards
In 2014, a very mild winter and spring resulted in early budbreak and bloom. While drought conditions continued in 2014, some extremely well-timed spring rains helped achieve a good moisture profile in our estate soils, and contributed to exceptional quality fruit. While everything happened earlier in 2014, a good size crop slowed the overall pace of ripening, ultimately providing approximately the same amount of hangtime as a normal year, but with the fruit coming into the winery well in advance of any fall rains.
The Clones
All of the free-run wine went into 450-liter new French oak, which had received extended seasoning to enhance the roundness of the wine. The press wine was aged separately in twice-used Chardonnay barrels. The final wine was aged in 40% new French oak for a total of 14 months.
The Vintage
Lush and inviting, this beautiful wine captures the essence of what makes Russian River Valley Pinot Noir so compelling and delicious. From its silky tannins and fresh acidity to its gorgeous layers of wild strawberry, cherry, cola, beet root, rose and moist forest floor, it’s a complex and dazzling crowd pleaser.
Winemaking
This wine is made from a combination of Dijon 777 and Pommard clone grapes. The 777 provides a classic red fruit expression of Pinot Noir, while the Pommard contributes earthiness and structure.
