This full-bodied and alluringly aromatic wine displays floral layers of orange blossom, honeysuckle and jasmine, as well as hints of ginger and hazelnut. On the palate, a sweet brioche pastry note underscores flavors of lush tropical fruit and acacia flower.

Wine Profile
Near the summit of our vineyard is our prized Block Five. Largely planted to the highly aromatic clone 809, this special north-facing block features unique red volcanic soils that contribute to tiny clusters and low yields. Made from a core of clone 809 grapes, our Summit Chardonnay captures the essence of this special block.
The Vintage
In 2014, a very mild winter and spring resulted in early budbreak and bloom. While drought conditions continued in 2014, some extremely well-timed spring rains helped achieve a good moisture profile in our estate soils, and contributed to exceptional quality fruit. While everything happened earlier in 2014, a good size crop slowed the overall pace of ripening, ultimately providing approximately the same amount of hangtime as a normal year, but with the fruit coming into the winery well in advance of any fall rains.
The clone 809 portion of this Chardonnay (65%) was settled for 24 hours before pressing. The French oak barrels used for fermentation and aging included 40% acacia, which was selected to underscore the intense 809 aromatics without imparting significant tannins. All indigenous yeasts were used and it underwent 100% malolactic fermentation. The final wine was aged for nine months sur lie and saw 33% total new oak.
